 Tips for Getting Organized

Regardless of the space, by developing and implementing a few simple, efficient, and effective organizational systems into your daily routine, you will subsequently rediscover the time and clarity your body and mind yearn for.

Begin by picking one place. The key is to be decisive, break down your larger decluttering and reorganizing projects into smaller chunks, and get started, even if you feel unprepared. Whatever your priorities may be, select one area and stick to it.

1

Provide yourself with ample time to organize each space. Not every project will happen overnight. Create a to-do list and schedule a few hours each day to complete the tasks. Baby steps.

2

Taking a look at what remains after removing what is no longer needed, ask yourself whether or not each item belongs. If it can be moved to another space that is more accessible for its purpose, consider moving it.

4

Think creatively about areas that currently may not be used as efficiently as they could be, and implement new organizational systems that contribute to additional storage space. For example, switch from thick hangers to thin hangers to save closet rod space, or maximize vertical space with shelves that extend to the ceiling to store less frequently used items.

5

Use containers that are transparent or labels that identify the contents inside to create visibility and save valuable time when accessing the things you need.

8

Make sure that the items you use most often are the most accessible. Use lower shelves for easy access items, and higher shelves for items you don’t use as often.

9

First and foremost, after selecting an area to work with, minimize and declutter the things that are taking up valuable space and time but no longer serve a purpose in your life.

3

Add additional shelves or stack storage containers atop one another to divide vertical space and make the best use of the area.

6

No matter the space, and the items within, whether it be clothing, files, shoes, etc., use color coordination to develop an organized system that is visually appealing, provides efficient retrieval, and distinguishes between categories.

Develop storage systems that are flexible to your changing needs, allowing you to reconfigure and reuse solutions to solve a variety of storage and organization challenges.
